My Approach

I work using an integrative approach, tailoring therapy to the needs of each individual to support clients to gain a greater understanding of themselves and make lasting changes.

I value each client’s individuality and my aim is to create a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic experience that reflects each client's distinctiveness. I am an Accredited Schema Therapist with the ISST as well as an experienced DBT therapist (DBT British Isles trained) and EMDR therapist. I draw on these specialist approaches as well as a range of therapeutic approaches to tailor the therapy to the clients presenting issues.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss what would be the best fit for you.

About Me

Experience

I have more than ten years experience of working in mental health and psychological wellbeing. I have a varied clinical background working within NHS services for eating disorders, substance misuse, occupational health and severe and enduring adult mental health, eventually specialising in working with clients with complex trauma and borderline personality disorder. I have specialised in the use of Schema Therapy and EMDR. For more information about these approaches please see below.

I am currently working as a lecturer and research supervisor on the City, University of London Counselling Psychology Doctorate programme (DPsych) and for the Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Psychology.

Before becoming a Psychologist I worked in a fast paced marketing firm as an account manager and witnessed first hand the impact stress can have on wellbeing in the workplace. My doctoral research examined the nature of compassionate care in the NHS and promoting compassionate care, self-compassion and wellbeing in the workplace, which are areas I remain passionate about.

Schema Focused Therapy

I am an accredited schema therapist and offer this as a stand alone therapy and as part of an integrated therapeutic approach. Schema therapy is an innovative and empowering therapy which helps clients to understand their emotional needs, self-defeating patterns of behaviour and achieve long lasting change. "Schema Therapy has been shown to be significantly more effective than traditional treatments for a broad range of personality disorders, contributing to real recovery, not just symptom reduction" (ISST, 2019).

If you would like to learn more about Schema Therapy, please take a look at the Client’s Guide to Schema Therapy, written by Schema Therapist Dr David Bricker and Dr Jeffrey Young, the founder of Schema Therapy.

EMDR

I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a therapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from disturbing life experiences. Studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of long-term psychotherapy in a far shorter timeframe by helping clients activate their innate neuro-cogntive adaptive information processes.
